France has banned plastic, yes, as a part of our neighbours “Energy Transition for Green Growth” – an ambitious plan that aims to allow France to make a more effective contribution to tackling climate change, a law has been passed that prohibits any further use of plastic deli containers, cups and cutlery anywhere in France from the year 2020.
This came as a blow to the European packaging industry and the European body of packaging industries, Pack2Go Europe, a Brussels-based organisation representing European packaging manufacturers, says it will keep fighting the new law and hopes it doesn’t spread to the rest of the continent.
Although environmentalists are gung-ho about this law, many trade analysts are showing dissatisfaction with this law stating that it is against EU regulations on free passage of goods and services. However this indeed is a step in the right direction and UK should follow France too.
Replacing plastic with paper and bio plastic would free us from landfills, BPA contamination and many other health hazards forever.
